Frequently Asked Questions

The main difference is how they sit on the water. A floating dock rests on the surface and rises and falls with changing water levels, which makes it a good fit for deeper water or lakes where levels move through the season. A stationary dock, built on posts or cribs, is fixed to the lakebed and works best in shallow, stable water. We carry hardware and kits for both, and we can help you choose based on your shoreline and water depth.
-
A dock comes down to three things: a frame, decking, and the right hardware to tie it all together and hold it in place. That hardware can include brackets, hinges, cleats, ladders, fenders, and either anchoring for a floating dock or posts for a stationary one. We stock Dock Edge and Multinautic components and can put together a complete kit for your site.

Floating docks are held in place a few different ways, depending on the site. Common methods include anchors and chain, driven pilings, or stabilizer poles, and the right choice depends on water depth, bottom type, and how exposed the dock is to wind and waves. Getting the anchoring right keeps the dock stable and protects it through the seasons. We will help you pick the system that suits your lake.
