Lumber One Privacy Policy

Lumber One ("Lumber One," "we," "our" or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information through our website, lumberone.ca (the "Site"), and in the course of serving our customers in Manitoba and Ontario. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us. You may give us personal information when you fill out a contact form or request a quote, book a Design Centre consultation, place a custom order, arrange a delivery, sign up for our newsletter, or contact us by email, phone or in person. This may include your name, email address, phone number, mailing address or site location, project details (such as materials, timelines and site access) and anything else you choose to tell us.
We do not process payments or collect credit card information through the Site. Payments are handled in store or by phone.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we and our service providers collect information such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, time spent on the Site, the website or ad that referred you, and actions you take (for example, submitting a form). This is collected through cookies and similar technologies, described in section 4.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use personal information to:
- respond to your inquiries, quotes, consultations, custom orders and delivery requests;
- provide products, services and customer support, including order and delivery updates;
- send our newsletter and promotional emails, but only if you have signed up;
- understand how the Site is used and improve it;
- measure our advertising and show Lumber One ads to people who have visited our Site or may be interested in our products (see section 4);
- meet our legal, accounting and tax obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. If we want to use your information for a new purpose, we will tell you and, where required, ask for your consent first.
3. Your Consent
We collect, use and disclose your personal information with your consent, except where the law permits or requires otherwise. When you submit a form or contact us, you agree to us using your details to respond to your request and to provide the products and services you ask for.
Analytics and advertising cookies are optional. We tell you about them when you first visit the Site, and you can opt out at any time as described in section 4. Opting out will not affect your ability to request a quote or buy from us.
Newsletter. We send marketing emails only to people who have actively signed up. Submitting a contact or quote form does not add you to our newsletter. Every email identifies Lumber One, includes our mailing address and has an unsubscribe link. We honour unsubscribe requests within 10 business days.
You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits, by using the options in sections 4 and 9 or by contacting us.
4. Cookies, Analytics and Advertising
Cookies are small data files stored on your device. We and our providers use them, along with similar technologies such as pixels, to recognize repeat visitors, understand how the Site is used and measure our advertising.
Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the Site, such as pages visited, time on the Site and how you arrived.
Advertising. We use the Meta Pixel, provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook and Instagram). It records visits and actions on our Site so that we can measure the performance of our ads and show Lumber One ads to people who have visited our Site or who may be interested in our products. This is known as interest-based advertising. Meta also uses this information under its own Privacy Policy, including to improve its advertising services.
We do not use sensitive information (such as health or financial information) for advertising. We do not currently upload customer or newsletter lists to Meta or other ad platforms, and we will not do so without asking for your consent first.
Your choices:
- Browser settings: block or delete cookies (some parts of the Site may not work as intended).
- Meta: manage your ad preferences in Meta's Accounts Center (accountscenter.facebook.com) under "Ad preferences."
- Google Analytics: use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) and manage Google ad settings at myadcenter.google.com.
- Industry opt-out: use the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada's AdChoices tools at youradchoices.ca/choices. Opting out means you will still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests.
Opt-outs set through cookies apply to the browser and device you use. If you clear your cookies, you may need to opt out again.
5. Sharing of Information
We share personal information only as needed with:
- service providers who help us run our business, including Squarespace (website hosting and forms), Klaviyo (email marketing), Google (analytics) and Meta (advertising);
- delivery partners, when needed to get materials to your site, including ice road and other specialized deliveries;
- authorities or others, when required or permitted by law, or to protect our rights, property or safety.
Our service providers must protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us, except as described in section 4 for Meta and Google, which also use data under their own privacy policies.
6. Storage Outside Canada
Some of our service providers, including Squarespace, Klaviyo, Google and Meta, store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States. While there, your information is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities. You can contact our Privacy Officer with questions about our service providers.
7. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information against loss, theft and unauthorized access, use or disclosure. No website or system is completely secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.
8. Data Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required for legal, tax and accounting purposes. We then delete it securely or make it anonymous. Analytics data is kept for a limited period (for example, 14 months in Google Analytics). We keep records of newsletter consent as required by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
9. Your Choices and Rights
You may:
- unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email, or by contacting us;
- opt out of analytics and interest-based advertising as described in section 4;
- ask to see the personal information we hold about you and how it has been used or shared;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information, subject to legal and business record-keeping requirements.
To make a request, contact our Privacy Officer (section 13). We may need to confirm your identity. We will respond within 30 days, or tell you if we need more time as permitted by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at 1-800-282-1376 or priv.gc.ca.
10. Third-Party Links
Our Site may link to other websites, such as supplier or manufacturer sites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices or content. Please review their privacy policies.
11. Children's Privacy
Our Site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post changes on this page with a new "Last Updated" date and, for significant changes, provide a notice on the Site. If a change involves a new use of your personal information that requires your consent, we will ask for it before making that change.
